Pauline M. Eckner

Pauline M. Eckner, age 91, of Ford City, PA, died Friday, January 29, 2016 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

She was born October 2, 1924 in Kittanning, PA, the daughter of Calvin E. and Pauline (Zielonkiewicz) Miller.

Pauline was a 1941 graduate of Kittanning High School and then in 1945 she graduated from the St. Luke's Hospital of Cleveland, OH majoring in nursing. She worked as a head nurse in the surgical department for 18 years at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. Pauline was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ford City where she played the organ. She also was a member of the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and the Armstrong County Registered Nursing Association. Pauline was part of a bridge club with her friends for over 60 years. She loved to travel with family and friends, especially to the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Civic Light Opera. Her loving family will miss her delicious chocolate cake, peach pie, date-nut pudding, and pecan shortbread cookies.

She will be greatly missed by her two sons, Ronald Thomas Eckner and wife, Carol of Cleveland Heights, OH, and Richard Alan Eckner of Ford City; two grandchildren, Dr. James Eckner and wife, Heather of Ann Arbor, MI, and Megan Rodney and husband, Steven of Columbia, SC; four great-grandchildren, Markus and Avery Eckner, and Amara and Aidan Rodney.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; a husband of 49 years, Robert J. Eckner whom she married June 28, 1947 and who died January 24, 1996; a daughter, Nancy Ann Eckner; two brothers, Howard E. Miller and Dr. Calvin E. Miller; and a sister, Esther Hampton.

Friends will be received from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 1 PM until the time of funeral services at 2 PM on Monday, February 1, 2016, at the funeral home with the Rev. Canon Leigh Aaron Kester, Ph.D. officiating.

Burial will be in Saxonburg Cemetery, Saxonburg, Pennsylvania.
